FAQs: A page on a website which gives answers to common problems and questions. You can often find an FAQs section if you have a problem with something, before you email or phone for support. It is a common, popular slang term.

Following the rather terrible failure of the TfL Oyster Card system a few weeks back, the system has broken down again. Word of the Week: Encrypt (also known as encryption)

Encryption: The coding of data so that it can’t be read by hackers or snoopers etc. When transmitted over the internet, for example, any reputable website selling goods by credit card or Internet Bank will encrypt  all credit card information and personal details that you enter and send to to them.

Oyster cards went wrong on Saturday, did you travel?

TfL’s (Transport for London) Oyster card system when badly wrong and crashed on Saturday (12th July), meaning that the electronic cards didn’t work for about five hours.

The fault started around 5:30 and carried through till about 10:30 on Saturday morning. The net result being that card holders couldn’t pass through the barriers and some passengers may well have been charged the full cash fare for their journey on that day (approximately £4). (more…)
