Skype in Windows 7 has an annoying habit of taking-up space in the taskbar when the user is signed in. Here is how to minimise it to the system tray area and stop it from taking-up valuable taskbar space.
In the days before Windows 7, Skype when you closed it using the top-right red X would shrink itself down to the notification area (down by the clock in the taskbar). As of Windows 7 when Skype is running it remains in the taskbar even if the program is closed from view which can take-up unnecessary space on the taskbar even though Skype is using a separate notification bubble to let you know of incoming calls and messages.
To make Skype hide itself to the notification area users need to change an option. Best of it all only takes a handful of clicks.
- In Skype choose ‘Tools’ (top menu)
- Choose ‘Options’
- Click on ‘Advanced’ (opt for ‘Advanced Settings if it has not already done so)
- Untick the option ‘Keep Skype in the taskbar while I’m signed in’
- Press ‘Save’ in the bottom-right of the Window.
That’s it!
