Skype has today release version 5 of its software, the main new feature being Facebook integration.
Users can now see their Facebook feed from within Skype, as well as Skype and Facebook contacts becoming integrated within the one application. This means that Skype users can find their friends on Facebook who also have Skype easily add them at the touch of a button to their contacts, rather than having to manually add them.
Skype’s other new, all be it rather impressive, new feature is its extended video function that allows users to call up to 10 people at time. It is however available now as a free trail in beta, but most likely will be a charged add-on somewhere further down the line.
The Skype interface has also had a makeover for the new feature set and scaled back into a much more simplified look. It also has listed contacts with photos and avatars.
Further on into version 5, there is now also an ‘automatic call recovery’ which should do exactly what it claims to: re-establish calls that are interrupted by poor quality Internet connections.
Mac users will have to sit tight for the new functions for a while as it is flagged as “coming soon” for them.
