The clever people at Mozilla have been working since last Autumn on rather a useful check service which detects users plug-ins for their browser and tells them if they are up to date.
Out-of-date plug-ins are a major security risk for Internet users, as well as being one of the many reasons why their browser may crash, or even get their PCs infected with viruses and other unwanted software.
Plugins which are often out of date include: Adobe Flash Player, Java, Quicktime, Silverlight, and many more.
The service is a great and easy way for users to see if they are running out-of-date plug-ins in just one simple page. If the user has the most recent version, it says so. If they have an older version which should be upgraded, it gives the user a link to where they can download it from in just a few clicks.
More interestingly however, Mozilla have provided the service not just for its Firefox users, but it also works for Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome and Opera users.
Users of any of these browsers are encouraged to head over to this page now: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
