Sky this week will be rolling out the much anticipated upgrade for Sky+ HD users with Amstrad and Samsung set-top boxes.

The EPG started being distributed in March of this year to customers with Thomson or Pace boxes.
The upgrade has been “additional and planned development work” according to Sky, which is why there has been such a delay for users with Amstrad and Samsung set-top boxes.
Sky has told Digital Spy that it is going to be contacting 30,000 Sky HD customers with a Samsung box in the coming weeks about them upgrading to the new EPG.

23rd have’nt been contacted lost interest to be honest, why promise and not deliver feel very let down by sky!!!!
I would contact Sky Tom if they have not updated / contacted you.
I have rang them and been told there was a msg sent to my box but then told to wait to the end of september. Getting fed up now !! I have an amstrad hd box since feb 09.
don’t bother contacting sky because they do not know when the upgrade is going to happen for all Amstrad and Samsung set-top boxes.
Been waiting for what seems like an eternity for this EPG….. getting bored of waiting and feel like they have given up on their customer care & commitments….
Judging by how many people have posted that the upgrade is not yet available to Samsung STB users, I think we can all safely conclude that it’s not yet actually available, despite what Sky said in September.
Amstrad users haven’t mentioned problems so I would assume they are fine.
Very confused, but I am sure there is some sort of logic in the situation!
I upgraded to HD in September and Sky installed an Amstard box with the old EPG. I am still waiting for the new EPG.
I have a Samsung HD box. Received an email today saying that I should expect an E.P.G update any time now.
As an Amstrad STB owner I can safely say I don’t have the new EPG.
I have the Amstrad HD box and havent got the update too. Ive tried forcing the update but nothing happens to the EPG. It stays the old one. Getting rather peeved
well its now the 1st of November and i’m yet another SKY +HD Amstrad STB owner that hasn’t recieved the new EPG software…………….. maybe it’ll arrive for xmas? whats the concensous on that?
Update about the HD EPG arrival time: http://thetechangel.com/blog/2009/11/sky-says-epg-update-is-on-the-way-really/
Personally I wouldn’t get too excited about the new EPG. I had a PACE HD box for two years, worked fine. I received a letter from sky informing me that the box had a fault and needed replacing. (think it was a compatibilty issue with the forthcoming EPG). Enginneer came out and fitted a Thompson box. All seemed ok for a couple of weeks. Then we got the EPG update. Within days the box started crashing, failed recordings. Even when it worked the EPG was painfully slow. The freezing happened at least 3 or four times a week. Had to turn off at wall to reset. Called sky and an Engineer came out again with another Thompson box. Same trouble. After the three Thompson boxes I demanded a new box not a refurb (usual sky policy). I got an brand new Amstrad with the old EPG. Had it since May and all works fine and not one crash. I am not looking forward to the new EPG!!!!
Switched on my HD+ this morning to find that EPG upgrade had taken place overnight. The EPG is fine but I would rather be able to watch TV! All channels have ‘No Satellite Signal being received’
I’ve tried switching off STB and restarting the LMB to no effect. No useful help on the SKY website of course.
Ideal, so it does look like we WILL be getting the new EPG then… although it may not work and if you’ve got an alphabetically challenged Amstrad HD STB then it will be next year! hurrah! cant wait! lol
My Samsung HD+ box has suddenly froze last 3 nights in the morning on a row – I assumed it had been trying to update the epg, but NO,— it reboots back to the old epg with no changes. No failed recordings yet, but that is because I wasn’t recording anything at the time.
Now every morning when I turn sky on, it turns onto channel 998 meaning it has rebooted overnight, but alas, still no epg…..
Is you Sky box plugged into the phone line? It’s a requirement according to Sky.
Hi, well for the first time it wasn’t connected to the phone line – looked like a loose connection, but I check this regularly and it ha never happened before – Do you reckon this has prevented it updating?
Yes!
Its 15th november 2009, we upgraded sometime during early october. We have amstrad box but no epg. Last nite i tried a forced update and everything updated as it should have done but still no new epg. Please help?
We have Sky HD with Sky+ multiroom. Had it for around 2 years now. Neither box is connected to a telephone line. When the Engineers came to replace my faulty Thompson boxes they obviously noticed there was no phone line but have none of them have ever questioned it.
Also back in May (I think) my the Thompson box recieved the EPG update proving phone lines are not necessary in order to recieve updates.
Ian, The phone line is only required (according to Sky’s documentation) if you are forcing the update through.
If it is downloaded on the normal schedule (normally the middle of the night) then it just receives the update through the satellite connection.
So it’s NOV 19, the phone is definitely connected , I had to turn off sky anytime to stop my samsung box resetting in the middle of the night….etc etc etc
i.e. I’ve done everything but still no mention whether the epg update has happened , been delayed or been called off.
I’m guessing there have been technical hitches because they are still showing the old epg tutorial on channel 999/998
Well if its anything to go by MMason, if Jamie S says he now has it on his Samsung box, I am sure it won’t be much longer for you.
what can i do now? my update hasnt been done even yet. I only tried forcing update because i waited so long and it hasnt done so. Even after the forced update was complete – i still havent got the new epg. PLZ HELP, email me [EDIT] if you know something that may help. thanks in advance.
have been speaking to sky about the new EPG and when it will be downloaded, they say that they are continuing to roll out the new EPG over the next few months and that all HD+ boxes will receive the new EPG in the near future. doing the force download procedure ain’t good for the boxes and only should be done when required. doing this won’t get the EPG downloaded any quicker as it will be downloaded automatically when it is available for that make and model of HD+ box. by the sound of it there are still some bugs to be ironed out, it makebe better they get them sorted before downloading it onto your £300 HD+
Spoke to Sky this morning, and after a long, boring 20minutes I was told to expect the new EPG, rolling out from the 2nd week in December (Amstrad boxes)……..believe if you will!! we wait.
how do you force download?
A telephone line is only needed for multiroom subscriptions, checking your bill and ordering box office movies etc, updates etc are done through your sat dish.
Guys, if you are on the old EPG then keep it. Got upgraded the other night and think the new menu guide is dreadful. Now it takes longer to find things in the planner if you have a series link. To select a channel from the guide, you now have to press the select button twice (small thing I know) and the box has completely slowed down. Personally I really think it’s the worst menu guide on the martket.
I’m getting my old Sky+ box out of the garage and using that. Honestly sky haven’t a clue when it comes to designing user interfaces!! Argghh!!
What type of box do you have Peter? Ian got upgraded on Sunday and says that all is well with his.
The new EPG finally came through on my Amstrad box on Sunday night!! Seems ok so far. No crashes or speed issues.
Hi, my Amstrad Sky+ HD box got updated mid week, very happy, havent had any speed issues and after a bit of faffing around initially i can now find all my channels and even ITV HD! hurrah!! well would be if they ever broadcast anything! lol! copy and paste this link into your browser address bar if you want to know how to add it.
