HP Battery Recall

Such a bore to say this but HP have now jumped on the band wagon with a battery recall for over 70,000 laptop batteries.

Doctor Who (David Tennent) on laptop TVYou would think we had heard the last of this from the various manufactures…but sadly not.

HP says “HP and the battery cell manufacturer believe that certain battery packs shipped in HP notebook PC products manufactured between August 2007 and January 2008 may pose a potential safety hazard to customers.”

If you did get a laptop somewhere around or in-between those dates, then you may need to get a replacement – not that this will cost you anything, HP will give you a brand spanking new battery to replace your current one (if you’re entitled). All you need to do is check to see if you model is included in the recall from HP.

For those of you who don’t really care that “batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard”, it will only take a couple of minutes, and remember that the replacement battery is free, so there is little to panic / stress / reason not to check.

If you have children who own laptops it would be worth checking theirs too. Just look for the model number on the machine, normally written just above the keyboard area, then have a look below to see if you model matches any one of these.

The following HP models series are affected:

  • Compaq Presario A900
  • Compaq Presario F700

Use the link above if your laptop matches anyone in the same series. For example if you have a DV6502, you need to get cracking!

Michele, maybe you should ask this to HP rather than me?
I would doubt though if you can’t give them back the old battery they will want to ‘exchange’ for a new one.
