Symantec lets Norton 2009 into the wild

and Norton 2009 have been released by Symantec for general use.

It would very much seem that the packages have been given not only a full work over, but a total change in direction for in performance terms – BIG changes!

The speed ‘issues’ that sometimes are a great woe for users have been given serious treatment. The rewritten tools have been designed for a “zero impact” on performance and the claims the Symantec have laid down are something to please and delight users the world over.

The key points that users will want to be in the know about:

  • 60 second or less installations
  • Quick scans of the basics on your PC are now a little over 30 seconds
  • 3 seconds will be added to a PC’s boot time
  • A minimum of 74% less usage of that any other rival product
  • Full system scans between 40%-89% father than rivals
  • A real time processor monitor to allow users to see the system and Norton usages

The last point is a very bold step in terms of really showing the user what their PC can do. But another clever little feature is ‘Pulse ’ which is every 15 minutes a delivery of latest and threats definitions is sent, with no need for users attention.

One other good to hear claim is that 98% of all malware, 95% of all spyware, will be detected, with no false positives. Even bolder a move than the other ideas.

or over the counter prices aren’t bad either, with Internet Security priced at £49.99, and £39.99 for Antivirus. Better still for the family users, each comes with three user licences.

Not that Norton was ever in the bad books with me, but this comes as great to me, and it should t you too.
