This post is very much outside of the usual realms of The Blogberry’s articles, it’s designed for those who use WordPress (an open source blogging software platform). On the whole, it’s safe to say that most customers can ignore this post. Those who use WordPress – read on!
Like many, since upgrading to WordPress version 2.6 or 2.6.1 a few weeks back, I was unable to use the standard rich text editor (WYSIWYG) which TinyMCE is meant to have. In fact, all browsers (IE7, Firefox 3 & Opera) told me it could not load it, and that resulted in me being stuck in HTML only mode.
Having gone through quite a few posts on the WP forums, I found that nothing solved the issue.
Then I tried the following:
1. Open the wp-config file in a basic editor, i.e. Notepad
2. Choose from the top menu File > Save as…
3. Change the encoding from UTF-8 to ANSI and press Save
4. Upload the changed wp-config file as normal to your WordPress file
5. Done!
Then try writing a post and seeing if you get the full, standard working TinyMCE editor.
Do note, you may need to also clear your temporary Internet files before trying to write a post.
It worked for me, and hopefully for you too (that way I know I have done my good deed of the day!). If it does work for you then remember to say thank you or link back to this article for others to know about, but it’s always nice to hear from the readers.
Boot note to readers: Please don’t steal content from here i.e. copy and paste this onto your own site, forums or anywhere else. From experience, it’s not much fun hearing other people call your work their own, or implying it’s their own. You’re more than welcome to link back, ping back or trackback to the post though. Better still, use the links below to share it on social bookmarking sites.
