IKEA is planning on going beyond the usual flat-pack furniture market and (hopefully) within the next five years could be adding “green” goods to its product line, including solar panels.
Recently IKEA created a ‘GreenTech’ fund, and is pouring 50 million Euros in to it, which will invest in 10 green creating companies in the next few years.
Product research includes: solar panels, better and green ways of lighting your home, efficiency meters, better sustainable materials, and (by no means least!) water treatment and conservation.
IKEA is just one of many, many, global companies trying to make a truly good effort in making the world a little greener, starting with eliminating plastic bags from checkouts. It started this process about two years ago in the UK.
Further to this, staff at Swedish stores are encouraged to make use of hybrid cars and bicycles.
I have only one question to IKEA now: If I buy one of their solar panels in years to come, do I still need an Allen key?
