Microsoft has released some pretty important updates for Mac users who use their Office products. The updates revolve around some key patches, stability and performance fixes, and a compatibility pack for the Open XML document format.
Microsoft releases Open XML format for Mac (essential update)
This update from Microsoft (MS) finally unlocks the file format converters that allow Office 2004 for Mac to read Open XML formatted documents.
The converts should have been available around the time of Office 2007’s release, but MS delayed it several times. It’s any update well worth taking on board, because as more people upgrade Office (on both Mac & Windows) the Open XML format is the default format that files are saved in. Those who don’t install it won’t be able to open documents of that type (file type: .docx).
Microsoft Office 2008 update for Mac
This update arrives a little over a month since MS began distributing Office 2008 SP1. This patch hover offers up better preservation of formatting in Word documents, far better reliability for Excel files, better performance in PowerPoint, and more stability to Entourage.
