Norton 2006 users can now get a free upgrade from their 2006 or 2007 version to 2008. The upgrade will cost users absolutely nothing, and their existing subscription will still work with the new software package.
Symantec (the makers of Norton) told PC Pro: “Symantec is pleased to confirm that Norton Internet Security 2006 customers with a valid subscription are now eligible to receive the latest product features available with Norton Internet Security 2007 through the Norton Update Centre. This update centre has been designed to provide eligible customers on the 2006 versions of Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus products with the latest feature updates at no additional cost as a part of their subscription service.”
It will only cost users about 15 minutes of their time. To see if you can get the freebie upgrade, click the link at the end of this article.
Alternatively, as already stated in an article on the Blogberry in October 2007, “I recommend that users upgrade every other year to the most recent edition, and for the year in between to just renew the subscription. That way you keep in touch with what security issues can affect your PC, but do not incur a premium for upgrading each year.”
