This posting is really for business customers who use a VPN to get through to work.
This issue had me scratching my head after a customer grumbled that their VPN connection would randomly drop out or disconnected on them, resulting in a complete restart of their PC in order to get back on.
The symptoms where that even if they were wirelessly connected, or cable connected to the Internet VPN, their machine would just stop working, disconnected and that was it. This would happen approximately every two hours. Alternatively, they would be able to connect, but once connected could not access anything on the VPN.
Once restarting the PC, or reconnected, everything would be fine, but then later the problem would resurface its ugly head.
Fortunately, after a little digging around on the Internet I found out that not only was Microsoft aware of the issue for Vista users, but they had provided a fix for it too. All was solved with a few clicks, a single download and restart. Problem solved!
Links for fix from Microsoft:-
Windows Vista
Download the Update for Windows Vista (KB930163) package now.
Windows Vista 64-bit version
Download the Update for Windows Vista, 64-bit versions package now.
Note though: That fix should be included in Vista Service Pack 1, but at the time of this going to press it is unclear.
