When you’re composing a new message to someone, most users with opt to use the auto-complete (sometimes known as the predictive list) in the ‘To:’ box. This allows your regular contacts to be found quickly an easily with only a few keystrokes.
In most online, or desktop email software programs and platforms, auto-complete is turned on, and will suggest names as you type them in either the To, Cc, or Bcc boxes in your email messages.
When you type the first letter of a name in one of these boxes, auto-complete begins to suggest possible matches based on names you have typed before. The more letters you type, the greater the possibility of auto-complete finding a match.
Names that you use less frequently will move lower in the list over time, and eventually will no longer appear.
As a general note, if the auto-suggestion offers no matches to what you are entering, don’t worry. The auto-complete feature will remember what you typed the next time you type that name.
