It’s that time of the month again, Patch Batch Tuesday for Windows users. Microsoft has also pointed out that 3 of the patches for you are critical, so make sure you do those updates (if you haven’t already been requested to).
The updates are for your graphics (DirectX software), Windows Media, and Internet Explorer.
In the critical three, the updates block those naughty hackers from smuggling in the stuff you really don’t want. The SANS Institute’s Internet Storm Centre warns that IE (Internet Explorer) is bar far the most vulnerable of them all, since hackers are already actively exploiting the bug on vulnerable machines.
The others are classed as “important” updates which addresses bugs and issues in Windows Vista, and DRM (Digital Rights Management) software which is bundled with Windows from a third party.

To update on Windows XP:
Press Start > All Programs > Windows Update > choose ‘Express Update’ > Follow on screen instructions from then on in > wait for installation to complete. Then restart if requested.
To update on Windows Vista:
Press Start > All Programs > Windows Update > Press ‘Check for updates’. If updates are already waiting, choose ‘install now’ and wait for installation to complete. Then restart if requested.
