In early September Sky said that users “contacting 30,000 Sky HD customers with a Samsung box in the coming weeks about them upgrading to the new EPG”.

However, some readers of thetechangel.com’s Blogberry have spoken about not receiving the new EPG for their STBs. One user said “Been waiting for what seems like an eternity for this EPG….. getting bored of waiting”.

But there was good for one reader, Mark T, who said on the comments section “I have a Samsung HD box. Received an today saying that I should expect an E.P.G update any time now.”

Sky spoke to Spy and has said that “all Samsung HD boxes will be migrated to the new guide over the next few weeks, before the team moves on to receivers manufactured by Amstrad.”

Had brand new Amstrad box delivered and fitted friday(20/11) and guess what, it came with the old EPG and hasn’t updated since being switched on. If update is out there why not supply it updated – despair

Whilst configuring with TV (Samsung 6000 series) I noted that when Sky selected on HDMI channel it came up with 50Hz.

I have queried sky and they tell me their HD Boxes are indeed only 50Hz so you will only get any 100Hz benefit from consoles & DVD playes capable of out put of 100Hz – Swizz all round.

    Dissapointed Dave

      Thanks for the info Dave.

I think Sky is playing it safe, maybe a bit too safe for the likes of its customers.

Clearly a slow rollout rather than releasing the update into the wild in case there are some boxes which simply won’t work the new EPG. Better that than hundreds / thousands of customers with broken boxes (imagine the admin backlog to get through that scenario!).
